Sarah Jessica Parker’s Braid Is a Quiet Silver Masterpiece

Sarah Jessica Parker has really been leading the charge for letting gray hair live in harmony with non-gray hair, and with every public appearance, she makes a pretty compelling case for letting the two coexist rather than trying to color away the gray. And as if she wasn’t already one of the most iconic trendsetters of our time, at the New York City Ballet Fall Fashion Gala on October 1, she essentially answered the question, “What if Rapunzel leaned into the quiet silver, coquette, and fairycore trends?”

Parker was seen entering Lincoln Center with husband Matthew Broderick, who wore a classic tuxedo that stood in quite the contrast to Parker’s whimsical look. She wore a sheer, blush-pink Simone Rocha dress covered in embroidered flowers—a long-sleeve adaptation of the version that was shown on the Fall/Winter 2026 runway. Wide, pale pink, satin ribbons were threaded loosely throughout the dress, culminating in bows at the shoulders.

But that’s not really where the ribbons end. Another perfectly matching ribbon is woven throughout one of the most fantastical braids in recent memory. Parker’s hair was gathered into an enormous, layered, fishtail braid that starts high on the back of her head with a bow, its ends interlaced intermittently with the incredibly thick folds of the plaits. It’s tied off near her waist, and the ends of her hair flow for at least another wavy foot.

As usual, her color is particularly beautiful. In the braid itself, we see a mix of golden pieces, cooler beige, and deeper brown, creating a variegated effect that makes the braid look even more dimensional. The silver is especially concentrated around the front and crown, where her hair is swept smoothly back from her face.

The Rapunzel comparison is inevitable with hair this long, but SJP’s fanciful presentation makes it feel especially true to the fairytale—but especially modern with her stunning mix of highlights, lowlights, and silver strands.
